Fighting for Lower Gas Prices

by Scott | August 4th, 2008 | AddThis | Print

”A bipartisan group of 10 senators offered an energy plan Friday aimed at producing more domestic oil via offshore drilling, reducing energy prices, and aiding the troubled economy,” according to FOXNews.com. Senator Landrieu has been working with the Gang of Ten to develop a smart, passable energy solution. According to Republican Senator John Thune, a fellow member of the group, ”There are a lot of folks that see the energy issues as a great political issue to campaign on, but I’d say all of the ten people who are here today believe this is an issue that Americans want a solution on.”

Our second ad of the campaign is up and running on television! The statewide ad highlights Senator Landrieu’s 10-year battle to deliver revenue sharing for oil and gas produced off Louisiana’s coast. Because of Senator Landrieu’s efforts, Louisiana could receive as much as $40 billion for coastal restoration and hurricane protection projects. Her bill marked the first time in 25 years that portions of the American outer continental shelf were opened to energy production. Some politicians talk about the need for more energy production, but Senator Landrieu has actually gotten the job done.

Louisianians know that Senator Landrieu has been a leader in the Senate for expanding domestic energy production so that America no longer has to depend on our enemies for oil and gas.  Sometimes, this means breaking with her party to get the job done for Louisiana.

In fact, the Washington Times reported that:

When it comes to domestic energy production, Louisiana Sen. Mary L. Landrieu is not your typical Democrat.  Indeed, she’s among a handful of Democrats working with Republicans on decreasing” America’s dependence on foreign oil.

Yesterday, the Politico wrote that Senator Landrieu is part of a group of five Democrats and five Republicans who are fighting to come up with a commonsense, bipartisan approach to America’s energy crisis.  We hear a lot of talk about lowering the price at the pump, but Senator Landrieu is fighting to actually get it done.

Senator Landrieu is fighting in Washington to lower gas prices for Louisianians and the rest of the nation. Senator Landrieu doesn’t just talk about the energy crisis, she works to solve it.

The Shreveport Times yesterday ran an editorial in support of Senator Landrieu’s “recommendation to de-politicize decisions about the strategic [petroleum] reserve,” and Senator Landrieu appeared on CNBC’s Kudlow & Company to discuss her bipartisan effort to lower the cost at the pump and move America toward energy independence.
